Vintage MCM Felipe Derflinger Brutalist Caged Amber Glass Pitcher
Felipe Derflinger was a designer based in Mexico who was active in the 1960s and 1970s and was heavily influenced by the Mid Century Modern styles of the time as well as the Brutalist art movement which often combined materials in interesting and innovative ways.
Derflinger's signature "caged" technique involves a fusion of hand-blown glass and meticulously crafted metal frameworks, typically iron, brass, or copper. This process created a dynamic tension between the organic forms of the vibrant, sometimes bubbly, glass and the structural rigidity of the metal cage. The resulting pieces are both functional and sculptural, playing with light and shadow in a manner characteristic of the Mid-Century aesthetic he was heavily influenced by.
