He never showed any interest in the farming life; instead, he went around with a pen in his hand from an early age, and his mother was the one who encouraged him the most. He attended Otte Sköld's painting school in Stockholm during the 1930s. He lived most of his life in Gersheden but undertook many trips with his wife Ingeborg and his painting companion Erling Ärlingsson. He had his own unique coloring that was somewhat muted, but after a brain hemorrhage in 1972, when his right arm became paralyzed, he learned to paint with his left hand, and his colors became brighter. He belonged to the same generation as Tage Erlander and Fridolf Rudin, and they were good friends.
